# Why we don't do warm-up

Warm-up can hurt you. What Google and Microsoft really check, and what to do instead.

Many cold email tools offer “warm-up”. We don’t. Here is why, and what to do instead.

## Warm-up can hurt you

- Warm-up tools fake activity. Mailboxes email each other. They fake opens and replies.
- Google and Microsoft now look for this.
- In 2023, Google made GMass stop its warm-up.
- In 2026, a new blocklist called Heatwave listed over 1.2 million domains for warm-up. Being on it is permanent.
- Experts say many domains got worse after warm-up.

## What Google and Microsoft check

**Microsoft** checks the reputation of the sending servers and your domain. New domains start with low trust. So start slow.

**Google** checks that you follow the rules. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Let people unsubscribe in one click. Keep spam reports very low. If you break the rules, Google can reject your email.

## How Google learns about you

- Google tests your first emails.
- It sends some to the inbox and some to spam.
- If people open, click and reply, more of your emails reach the inbox.
- If people mark you “Not spam”, that helps too.

Start with small groups. Then grow. As GMass says: “be your own warmup system.”

## What to do

1. Add a few of your own email addresses to your first campaigns. For example, your personal Gmail or Outlook. Do not use addresses on this same domain.
2. Open those emails. Click a link. Reply.
3. If one is in spam, mark it “Not spam”. Then reply.
4. Keep the slow start on. Each new mailbox starts at 10 emails a day and grows to 30.
5. Check your list. Fix any red SPF, DKIM or DMARC badges.

Real people, real replies. That is what builds trust.
