Bounces and auto-pause.
Hard and soft bounces, and how campaigns protect your mailboxes.
A bounce is an email that couldn’t be delivered.
Hard bounces
The address doesn’t exist. For example “mailbox does not exist”.
- The address is blocked across your whole account at once.
- It is never emailed again, from any campaign.
Soft bounces
A temporary problem. For example a full mailbox.
- We retry 3 times over 72 hours.
- If it still fails, it counts as a hard bounce.
- You can block a soft bounce yourself from the domain page.
Auto-pause
Each campaign has a bounce limit. The default is 5%. When the bounce rate reaches it, the campaign pauses itself. 2–3% protects your mailboxes better.
When a campaign pauses:
- Check your list. Remove old or bought contacts.
- Check your domain’s SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Then click Resume.
See every bounce
Open Mailboxes, then a domain. You see the daily bounce rate and every bounced email, with the code and reason from the receiving server.
Keep bounces low
- Import from fresh, trusted lists.
- Let us check contacts on import. See How we check contacts.
